With Loom's async video expertise and Atlassian's team collaboration understanding, we aim to innovate and empower customers for richer collaboration. Join us on our mission to make the impossible possible.\n\nAtlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nYour future team\n\nLoom is the video communication platform for async work that helps companies communicate better at scale. The Media & Intelligence Team lives at the heart of Loom's product development, providing a set of libraries, services, platforms, and APIs used across our systems to power recording, playback, editing, and advanced AI features.\n\nWe are seeking a senior software engineer to contribute to our media systems. You will report to the Senior EM of this team and collaborate with broad cross functional teams. This role can be remote or work from one of Atlassian's US offices.\n\nWhat You'll Do\n\n• Build the server-side and client-side infrastructure that enables engineering teams to build world-class video messaging products.\n• Design and implement media features that delight our users and differentiate Loom’s products and services from our competitors.\n• Uphold a high standard of engineering excellence because the performance and reliability of media infrastructure directly impact our product experience, hence the perception of Loom’s overall brand.\n• Diagnose and improve the quality of the end-to-end video experience. Optimize our media pipelines to be performant across all the platforms.\n• Display strong ownership and influence over the team's roadmap.\n\n\n\nQualifications\n\nYour background\n\n• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).\n• 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems.\n• Deep understanding of backend technologies and service architectures.\n• Solid understanding of database technologies and data modeling.\n• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues in a distributed environment.\n• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).\n• Prior experience working on media streaming platforms or related technologies.\n• Experience with mainstream media codecs and container format (VP8/x264/AAC/HLS etc.).\n• Experience building FFmpeg filters or have worked with FFmpeg APIs and tools.\n\n\n\nCompensation\n\nAt Atlassian, we strive to design equitable and explainable compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.\n\nRole\n\nIn the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:\n\nZone A: $176,200 - $234,900\n\nZone B: $158,600 - $211,500\n\nZone C: $146,300 - $195,000\n\nThis role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.\n\nPlease visit go.atlassian.com/payzones for more information on which locations are included in each of our geographic pay zones.
